There are loads of accommodation options in Legian; from five-star hotels to little family-run homestays.
We often get asked about where to stay in Legian so we’ve partnered with a guest house near Chandra’s Surfing to give you an affordable accommodation option while you’re visiting the area.
Run by a Balinese couple, Wayan and Apel, Mekar Sari Beach Inn has simple, clean rooms set among beautiful gardens. It’s such a peaceful location, you’ll forget you’re just a few minutes’ walk from the busy tourist strips and the beach.
There are two styles of room available at Mekar Sari Beach Inn.
Modern air conditioned rooms
The newer rooms have air conditioning, wi-fi, hot water showers, cable TV and modern furnishings and cost 250,000 IDR per night.
The tiled bathrooms in these rooms have a shower, sink and toilet. The chairs on the front porch are a great place to sit and enjoy the lovely gardens. The owners will also serve you tea and coffee here each day. They don’t provide breakfast but there are plenty of places nearby that do, so you can pick something up on your way to the beach or order a plate of fresh fruit to enjoy from one of our sunbeds!
As well as running the guest house, Wayan works as an artist and creates unique pieces of work that reflect the Balinese culture. Each of the modern rooms features one of his artworks to give it that special touch. You may also catch a glimpse of him at work as his studio is located within the same complex as the guest house.
Basic fan rooms
Mekar Sari Beach Inn is also a good choice if you’re after low-budget accommodation in Legian. For just 125,000 IDR per night you can stay in one of their more basic rooms. These have a fan and cold water showers and are slightly older in terms of style and decor, but if you just need a place to sleep while you learn to surf and explore Legian, Kuta and the surrounding area then these rooms are in a great location.
These rooms also have a front porch where you can sit and enjoy the garden, and where tea and coffee is served to you each morning.
If you’d like to book a room at Mekar Sari Beach Inn (even if you’re not learning to surf with us) you can just contact us to let us know when you’d like to stay and which type of room you want to book. We’ll arrange your booking and you can pay the owners in cash when you check out.
If you want to hire a motorbike or arrange any trips around Bali, the staff will be able to help once you arrive.
How to get to Mekar Sari Beach Inn
The full address is:
Mekar Sari Beach Inn
Jalan Lebak Bene, Gang Senen
You can view the location in Google Maps here.
A taxi ride from the airport should take no more than 20-30 minutes, depending on traffic, and will cost around 100,000 IDR. You’ll come along the main beach road, which swings right after the Pullman Hotel, and then you need to take the next (main) road on the right, just before the Magani Hotel. Gang Senen is on the right after Mayday Warung. Your taxi may not be able to get down this little alley but it’s a 50m walk to get to the guest house which is signposted on the left hand side.
If you take a taxi you can show the driver these instructions in Indonesian:
Dari Pantai Kuta belok kanan ke Jl Melasti lalu belok kanan ke Jl Lebak Bena lalu belok kanan sebelum Camplung Mas Hotel di Gang Senen.
How to get to Chandra’s Surfing from the guest house
Gang Senen hasn’t been added to the map yet, but trust us – it does exist!
You’ll appreciate having a place so close to our surf school because it means there’s not too far to walk after your lesson has finished and you don’t have to worry about taking taxis. It really is a quiet little oasis in the middle of busy Kuta.
